Cycle 1 - Post Mortem

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Hey GPOers!

It’s time to talk a bit about how things went.

In general, I think that it was a great day.  I know that I had fun.

Topics we should talk about (feel free to expand this!):

  1. the venue
  2. the games
  3. the schedule, or lack thereof
  4. how to grow the event

I had a blast.  Thanks to everyone who came out.  Special thanks to M Jason and Fraser, who both ran rockin’ games of Lacuna and Savage Worlds.  Extra big thanks to Lee-Anne and Vanessa, who shouldered more than their fair share of the “gettin’ shit done” load.

Oh, I had a kick-ass time at the Dust Devils game.  Thanks for playing with me.  I’ll talk more about that later.

Bed….

Last Minute *INSANITY*

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Hi Gang,

Just a quick ‘heads up’ to refresh your collective memories!

GPO is happening this coming Saturday, July 26!

We’re convening at the Desmarais Building at 55 Laurier East (Waller & Laurier).

There’ll be signage to guide you from the street to the event!

Gaming starts at noon, runs to 9pm (with a dinner break somewhere ’round 4ish).

Folks are welcome to show up whenever, but here’s a rough schedule:

11:00am -  informal socializin’, maybe some light board and card games
Noon - First “slot” begins
*4:00pm - First “slot” ends
*5:00pm - Second “slot” begins
9:00pm - End of day.

*These are approximate times, as we’re actually really casual!

Finally, interest level is high enough that some of our spotlight events (we have 3 organized RPGs) may fill up fast!

The solution?

Bring more stuff!  Got an RPG you’ve wanted to try, but haven’t had the time or players?  Now’s the time.

Ditto for boardgames!

See you on Saturday!

ETA on Arrival?

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

So the games are set to start at noon, but what time do people expect to arrive? There is usually ramp up time for a game, which I would think would be between 10 and 15 minutes. What about meeting around 11:30 for intros and such.

Also, what are people doing for supper? I figure I’ll just bring some cold pizza or something and eat there.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

Hop in a Trench?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I’m taking my new game, Black Cadillacs, to GenCon this year.  I’m finding fellow collaborators via the Ashcan Front booth.  However, I’m always happy to try it out with local folks, too!

If folks are interested, I’d be happy to either run or facilitate a playtest of the game at GPO.  Here’s the elevator pitch:

You play soldiers during wartime. It’s bloody and heroic and tense and horrifying.
And then…
You tell the stories of what happened to you. As players you see everything, what happened, and how it got told to family, friends, loved ones, and to fellow soldiers. In the gap between what happened and how it got told is the most powerful humanity you’ll ever play.

So, if this sounds like something you’d like, make sure to track me down.  I’ll have it with me, but I won’t be actively pimping it.
