Now, about a venue…
Thursday, June 26th, 2008So, over in the Birthing Pains thread, we’ve spent a lot of time talking about a venue.
I figured that since we’ve locked down a date, it would be a good idea to put venue front and centre again.
Here are the possible options I see:
- a meeting room at a city of Ottawa community centre ($7 or $10 an hour, depending on size)
- a meeting room at the Bronson Centre ($10 an hour)
- someone’s spacious apartment/home/pad ($0)
- get off our ass, get a charitable organization to work with us, and secure a community room at a Loblaws/Independent Grocer/Superstore ($0)
- use a friendly pub/restaurant ($0, other than the implied expense of actually buying their fare!)
I feel very strongly that we should plan realistically. I’d suggest that even if everyone pitches in to defer costs (which isn’t necessarily what will happen), we can’t justify spending in the neighbourhood of $100 for a room. We’ve got 8 confirmed participants!
I think that we need to really dig deep and figure out a way to get this done on the cheap. I have a meeting hall out here that’s perfect, and probably pretty cheap (~$50 for the day). The catch is it’s about 45mins south of Ottawa. But it’s lovely, has full facilities and kitchen. Oh, and lots of tables and chairs.
Let’s start thinking outside the box.
